Finland’s Instagram audience has stopped growing. Where should brands look next?

Instagram’s Finnish audience peaked in January 2026. What this year’s data shows for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and TikTok in Finland, and what to do next.

Short answer: Instagram’s addressable audience in Finland peaked at 2,670,700 people in January 2026 and was about 2.46 million in September, around 43% of the population, according to Meta advertising data compiled by NapoleonCat (NapoleonCat, 2026). Instagram still reaches a large share of Finns and stays in most brands’ plans. With the audience no longer growing, brands will grow by earning more of the attention that’s already there and by giving LinkedIn, TikTok and Facebook clear roles in their mix.

What does the 2026 data show?

NapoleonCat’s monthly figures for Instagram in Finland:

  • October 2025: 2,546,700
  • January 2026: 2,670,700, the highest point in the past 12 months
  • April 2026: 2,478,900
  • September 2026: 2,459,500, or 43.2% of the population

NapoleonCat’s own monthly table lists September at 2,500,000, so read the latest figure as roughly 2.46 to 2.50 million. Either way, the audience is slightly smaller than a year ago and well below January’s peak.

For comparison, here are the other major platforms in Finland in September 2026 (NapoleonCat):

  • Facebook: 3,570,400 users, 62.7% of the population
  • LinkedIn: 2,500,000 users, 43.9% of the population
  • Messenger: 2,456,000 users, 43.1% of the population

TikTok’s advertising tools estimate an adult audience of 1,491,000 in Finland, with women making up 62.2% and 25 to 34 year olds the largest group at 544,000 (Affect Group, 2026). The audience is smaller, but Finns who use TikTok use it heavily: DataReportal figures put Finland first in the world for average monthly time on TikTok per user, at 54 hours and 37 minutes (Back to Front Show, citing DataReportal).

How reliable are these numbers?

These figures are advertising audience estimates. They count people who use a platform at least once a month and can be reached with ads, which is a different measure from active users, and they move from month to month as platforms update their models. NapoleonCat’s data shows Instagram dropping 5% in April 2026 and rising 4.4% in June, for example. Read the trend over several months, and compare platforms with care, since each one counts its audience in its own way.

What does this mean for Finnish brands?

Instagram is a mature channel

When an audience stops growing, reach comes from winning a bigger share of the time people already spend there. That raises the bar for content. Instagram’s 2026 ranking puts most weight on shares, saves, watch time and profile visits (Pulse Advertising, 2026), so posts need to be worth sending to a friend or keeping. We explain how to measure that in our guide to the social media metrics leadership should see.

LinkedIn reaches as many Finns as Instagram

LinkedIn’s Finnish audience of 2.5 million is about the same size as Instagram’s. For B2B companies, consultancies, recruiters and founders, that’s an audience of similar scale made up of people who are there to talk about work.

TikTok is smaller but gets more time

For consumer brands and employer branding aimed at under-35s, TikTok’s heavy use in Finland makes it worth testing. TikTok also shows content to people who don’t follow you yet, which suits brands building an audience from zero. If you sell to businesses, read our guide on whether TikTok works for B2B brands.

Facebook still has the widest reach

With 62.7% of the population, Facebook remains the largest platform in Finland, and its audience is older: people aged 65 and over made up 13.8% of Facebook’s Finnish audience in May 2026, compared with 8.9% on Instagram (NapoleonCat). It suits local businesses, events and brands whose customers include older age groups.

How should you decide your platform mix?

  1. Start from your customer. Their age, where they spend time online and whether they buy for themselves or for a company.
  2. Check your own data. Look at which platforms already send traffic, enquiries and sales, and where your followers are most active.
  3. Pick two main platforms. In our experience, two well-run channels bring better results than four thin ones, and each platform needs content made for how people use it.
  4. Test a new platform for three months. Give it a fixed period with clear measures before deciding. Our guide on how long organic social media takes to show results explains what to expect month by month.
